Capcom has officially confirmed that Resident Evil 9, the next installment in the famous survival horror game, is currently in development, despite wild speculations to the contrary.
The director of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Koshi Nakanishi, who revealed the forthcoming sequel while discussing the mobile version of the first game, will oversee development.
“It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7],” Nakanishi stated. “But I did find it, and it feels very substantial, to be honest. Although I can’t give you any specifics just yet, I hope you’re eager for the day when I can.”
Nakanishi’s association with Resident Evil is extensive. Apart from Resident Evil 7, which had a significant role in reviving the franchise in 2017, Nakanishi also helmed the first Resident Evil Revelations game and Resident Evil Mercenaries 3D for the Nintendo 3DS. In Resident Evil 5, Nakanishi worked as a designer as well.
Throughout much of 2024, there have been rumors of a possible Resident Evil 9 reveal, but Capcom has so far kept them quiet. Remake rumors of Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica were also confirmed by IGN in May. The Resident Evil 4 Remake and Resident Evil Village are two of its most recent games; each was nominated for Game of the Year in its own year.
During their summer showcase, Capcom revealed information on a new Kunitsu-Gami demo and the release date for Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster in addition to announcing that a new Resident Evil is being developed. The remaining top games that will release in 2024 are listed right here.
