According to reports, Microsoft has looked into delivering Sea of Thieves on the PlayStation and perhaps the Nintendo Switch. It’s unclear, though, if these plans are still in the works or were canceled at Xbox about the pirate game developed by Rare.
Game File reported that it spoke with a person who was aware of a PlayStation port of Sea of Thieves, although it was unclear if this project was still in the works. Furthermore, Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb, a sister site of GameSpot, mentioned on Game Mess Mornings that he had heard the pirate game might make its way onto the Nintendo Switch and Sony platforms.
When Sea of Thieves celebrated its fifth anniversary in March of last year, more than 30 million players had played the game, which is mostly focused on multiplayer. It is a staple title available on Xbox Game Pass for PCs and Xbox devices.
This follows a recent report suggesting that further Xbox titles may be released on competing platforms. Hi-Fi Rush was the primary first-party title that was highlighted for the Switch. Microsoft previously released Ori and the Blind Forest on the Nintendo system, while Ori and the Will of the Wisps also appeared on the hybrid console.
Xbox Game Pass also offers all of these titles. Only last month, however, Xbox chief Phil Spencer stated that Microsoft has “no plans to bring Game Pass to PlayStation or Nintendo.” Therefore, the firm may only be investigating title-by-title multi-platform releases, particularly in light of Activision Blizzard’s acquisition.
