Four of Xbox’s studios are closing, including Ghostwire: Tokyo creator Tango Gameworks and Redfall developer Arkane Austin.
Xbox executive Matt Booty announced impending studio layoffs in an email sent to the whole business, as reported by IGN. “These changes are not a reflection of the creativity and skill of the talented individuals at these teams or the risks they took to try new things,” Booty wrote in his email. “I understand that the different support teams at ZeniMax and Bethesda who work to sell our games are also negatively impacted by these changes. In order to free up capital to spend more in other areas of our portfolio and concentrate on our top games, we are making these difficult choices.”
As Redfall’s development draws to an end, Arkane Austin will close, and the latest update will be the final one for the game. Booty stated that the servers will stay up, and Arkane Austin verified that credit will be given to individuals who bought the game’s premium editions..
Tango Gameworks has stated on Twitter that it is also closing. In addition to Hi-Fi Rush, its other products, such The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo, should also be accessible for purchase.

Roundhouse Games and Alpha Dog Games are the other two affected studios. The latter studio was established in 2019 following the closing of Human Head Studios, while the former is a mobile game developer best known for Mighty Doom. Additionally, Roundhouse and Zenimax Online Studios will merge.
After the publication of Redfall, Arkane Austin has remained largely quiet. Redfall’s one-year anniversary was last week, and many observed that the game’s promised DLC characters were still unreleased. This round of layoffs follows the January 2000 layoffs of 1900 employees by Xbox.
